Florian Kunneman

By applying and developing language technology I like to study what language and communication can reveal about the world. I am currently working as Assistant Professor at the Language and Communication group at Utrecht University, with the aim to improve the way in which governmental institutions communicate to the general public. Prior to this I have been working at the Social AI group at VU university (2019-2023), aimed at improving on the conversational competence of chatbots. As a postdoctoral researcher at Radboud University and Tilburg University (2017-2019) I studied sentiment (towards vaccination on Twitter and product aspects in online reviews), text readability prediction and question answering. During my PhD at Radboud University (2012-2017) I have studied the language of anticipation, sarcasm and a diversity of emotions, leading to a system that detects (future) events and identifies anticipointment.
